About Us

A hundred days over ninety degrees

That's Sacramento in a normal year. Not a heatwave — the baseline.

It changes what outdoor furniture has to survive. In most of the country the enemy is water: rain that sits, frost that splits, the freeze-thaw cycle that works joints loose over a winter. Here it's the sun.

UV degradation is slower and quieter than water damage, and considerably more thorough. Fabric fades and then goes brittle. Plastics chalk. Resin weave turns from flexible to snappable in about three summers. Untreated timber greys and checks. Nothing dramatic happens on any particular day — you just find, one spring, that the cushion tears when you pick it up.

Most outdoor furniture is specified for a climate that doesn't do this. We buy for one that does.

What that means when we're choosing

UV-stable materials, not just weather-resistant ones. Those aren't the same claim. Something can shed rain perfectly well and still fail under sustained sun. We look for solution-dyed fabrics, properly stabilized resins and powder coating that's actually rated for it.

Fixings and joints before appearance. Outdoor pieces rarely fail across the middle of a panel. They fail where two components meet, because someone specified the cheapest fastener. It's the least photogenic part of a product and the first thing worth checking.

Whether it needs shade or storage. Some pieces genuinely benefit from being covered or moved in the worst of summer — and that's fine, provided you know before you buy rather than discovering it in September.

Indoors, the problem inverts

Inside, nothing is attacking anything. Things just get used.

A dining chair takes a few thousand sittings a year. A lamp switch gets thrown twice a day for a decade. A cushion gets leaned on, sat on, washed, and leaned on again. No single event does the damage — the accumulation does.

So the questions change. Not "will it survive a summer" but "will the mechanism still work in five years", "does this fabric pill", "is that frame jointed or stapled".

Different failure mode, same discipline: check the specification before looking at the photograph.

On cooling, since we sell it

Worth saying plainly. In a Central Valley summer, the difference between a fan you use and one you don't is almost never power.

It's noise. A unit that moves plenty of air but hums at sixty decibels is a unit that gets switched off at bedtime, which is exactly when you wanted it. It's also placement — airflow through a room does more than raw output aimed at a wall.

So we pay more attention to how loud something runs and how it directs air than to the wattage figure on the box.

What we don't do

Chase seasonal trends. Outdoor furniture dates badly and slowly, which is the worst combination — a silhouette that was everywhere one summer looks precisely of that summer for the next eight years it occupies your patio.

Inflate prices to discount them. The price is the price. It doesn't go up in March so it can come down in June.

Overclaim. A patio set will not transform your summer. What good outdoor and home products actually do is quieter: they stop being a topic. Nothing wobbles, nothing fades to a different color than it started, nothing needs replacing next spring. You just use them.

Small ambition. It compounds over years rather than showing up on day one.

Ask before you buy

Not sure whether something fits the space, how a fabric holds up on a south-facing patio, or whether a piece needs covering through August? Send us a message.

You'll get an answer from someone who has handled the product — not a line lifted off a supplier sheet. We'd rather talk you out of the wrong thing than process the return.
